mission statement
The Learning Curve of Wisconsin's mission is to provide consulting services
and support to school personnel who are charged with planning and implementing
educational programs for students with special needs. The Learning Curve
of Wisconsin is dedicated to facilitating discussions with school teams
who want to eliminate gaps and duplication of services for students.
The mission will be achieved by providing practical, research-based programming
suggestions that will address student needs while capitalizing on the
strengths of the child. In addition, inservice opportunities will be made
available to school administrators, teachers, instructional aides and
parents to help them understand how students with special needs can have
their educational needs efficiently and effectively met without establishing
separate systems. Utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach, the services
of the Learning Curve of Wisconsin will help schools and other agencies
engineer comprehensive, seamless and efficient educational programming
for students with special needs.
philosophy
- Educators need to work together to teach diverse learners in integrated
settings. A service delivery model enables educators to provide services
across children and enviornments in contrast with programs that are
specifically designed for a particular subgroup of children.
- Collaborative teams comprised of special and general education teachers,
parents, administrators, support staff and community resources must
work together to provide systematic programming to meet the needs of
all learners in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Reprimanding or isolating student behavior from a disability is not
effective. Student behaviors can be proactively managed within the context
of a comprehensive intervention program where consistent strategies
are monitored and adjusted as necessary.
- When the needs of students of all abilities are met through the service
delivery model, the stage is set for a broad range of educators to teach
and learn together.
- Curriculum must be developed for the range of learners, using the
standards as a guide. Virtually all students benefit from classrooms
that are grounded in best-practice instruction and employ differentiated
instruction for all learners.
objectives
- To provide inclusive programming options that will not fragment a
student's day
- To facilitate discussions with school teams that will help them develop
instruction and services to meet student needs proactively and preventively.
- To assist school personnel in meeting the needs of students in integrated,
educational environments.
- To give research, direction and focus to school teams who want to
maximize the utilization of instructional aides.
- To offer inservice opportunities to school teams who work with students
with special needs.
