Meeting The Needs Of Students Who Are Twice Exceptional
February 6, 2006
Presenter
Illinois Association for Gifted Children Annual Convention, Chicago Marriot, Chicago, Illinois
10:00 AM - 11:15 AM http://iagcgifted.org/
As schools have attempted to identify and meet the needs of students who are highly capable, certain populations continue to be under-represented in programs for the gifted. Individuals who are gifted and have a disability or are considered underachievers are frequently overlooked. Preconceived notions of how disabiities affect cognition and how many believe gifted students need to be equally developed and motivated often prevent students from benefiting from services that focus on their strengths. This inservice is designed to provide attendees with insights into the roadblocks many students who are twice-exceptional or considered underachievers face during their school career. Strategies that focus on student strengths while simultaneously addressing areas of need will be shared.
